KAELY PHELPS THERAPY

About Me
I understand what it's like to navigate significant life transitions. After spending a decade as a licensed social worker in New York, I relocated to London in 2022 - an experience that has deepened my appreciation for the courage it takes to rebuild your life in a new place, adapt to unfamiliar systems, and maintain your sense of self through change.
My Background
I earned my Master's in Social Work from Columbia University and spent ten years practicing as a clinical social worker in New York, where I worked with individuals and couples facing anxiety, relationship challenges, trauma, and the pressures of high-achievement cultures. I'm currently completing a MA in Advanced Clinical Practice through Middlesex University at The Minster Centre in London and am registered as a UKCP trainee, bringing my years of clinical experience into this next phase of professional development.

How I Work
I believe therapy should be as unique as you are. I draw from multiple evidence-based approaches - including EMDR for trauma processing, Exposure and Response Prevention for anxiety, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for practical strategies, Internal Family Systems, and attachment-focused relational therapy - to create treatment tailored to your specific needs and goals. For couples, I integrate The Gottman Method and Emotions Focused Therapy to help partners build stronger connections and navigate conflict more effectively.

As a trained yoga teacher, I also incorporate mindfulness and somatic practices into my work. I believe healing happens not just through talking, but through reconnecting with the wisdom of your body. Whether that means using breathwork to manage anxiety, exploring how emotions show up physically, or integrating movement into our sessions, I help clients develop a more embodied sense of wellbeing.

Throughout my work, I maintain a trauma-informed lens, meaning I understand how past experiences shape present patterns, and I aim to create a safe, non-judgmental space for exploration and healing.

Who I Work With
My practice focuses on individuals and couples who are navigating complexity - whether that's adjusting to life in a new country, managing the demands of high-pressure careers, struggling with perfectionism, working through self-esteem challenges, or building relationships across cultural differences. I particularly enjoy working with:
-
Immigrants and expats adjusting to new cultures and identities
-
Working professionals and high achievers dealing with burnout, anxiety, or imposter syndrome
-
Individuals exploring perfectionism and self-worth
-
Intercultural and interracial couples navigating the complexity of blended backgrounds
A Bit About Me
Outside the therapy room, you'll find me seeking out mountains whenever possible, practicing yoga, hiking, and playing tennis, drinking coffee, cooking, and reading fiction. These practices remind me of the importance of challenge, restoration, and staying curious - values I bring into my clinical work.

Working Together
I'm here to help you build insight, develop new skills, and move toward the life you want. Whether you're processing past trauma, improving your relationships, or simply trying to feel more like yourself, I'm committed to meeting you where you are with warmth, expertise, and genuine care.
